Donation from NAMFI to Rural Schools.

The Namibian Maritime and Fisheries Institute (NAMFI) recently made donations to two rural schools, JP Brand Primary School at Utuseb about 54 km south east of Walvis Bay in Erongo Region and Huigub Primary School situtated about 34 km from Tsumeb in Otjikoto Region.
Among the items donated are computers, printers, over head projectors and used office and classroom furnishers.
The combined total value of the items donated to each school is about N$20 000.00
The donation is in support of the schools objectives to provide quality education and to contribute fully to the effective development of the schools and the entire community at large.

NAMFI is a nonprofit organization established by the Government of the Republic of Namibia. NAMFI is a trust through the Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources with a clear mandate to provide training to personnel in the fishing and maritime sectors.
Despite the fact that NAMFI is a nonprofit organization, NAMFI is fully aware it does not operate in isolation but operates in societies and communities. Therefore, NAMFI has a social responsibility towards our communities.

At the handing over ceremonies, the Director of NAMFI, Mr. Polli Andima, emphasized that” in fulfilling this social responsibility, NAMFI in a small way is making a contribution towards meeting your school’s objectives and ensuring a brighter future for your learners. We hope and trust that NAMFI contribution will make a difference in your effort to meet your educational goals and the goals of the Ministry of Education in general.

OSHE Fun-day.

NAMFI’s Occupational Safety, Health and Environment committee hosted a fun-day at our premises. Activities such as identification of health and safety hazards, planting trees, making our place more safe for all employees, and students took place.

Graduation ceremony.

On Wednesday 10 March 2010 a graduation ceremony was held for 10 Nigerian students who have completed a 4-month training programme in Welding under the auspices of RKK Namibia and NAMFI.

The students were presented with their diplomas by Hon. Dr. Abraham Iyambo Minister of Fisheries and Marine Resources in Namibia and the Nigerian High Commissioner to Namibia, Prince Adegboyega Christopher Ariyo.

In attendance, was the Her Worship the Mayor of Walvis Bay, Councilor Nambahu, Walvis Rural Councilor, Mr. Nangolo, Director of NAMFI, Mr. Polli Andima, Managing Director of RKK, Mr. Ole Imsland and Mr. Carl William, Director RKK, Namibia.

NAMFI HIV Fundraising day.

The Namibian Maritime and Fisheries Institute (NAMFI) hosted a HIV fun day on 26 February 2010 where all stakeholders, companies and students were invited to participate.

Different type of games, such as Volley ball and Soccer Beach were part of the programme. The revenues earned from such participation were to be donated to orphan homes in Kuisebmond, Walvis Bay.

Suffice to say that it went very well, all participants thoroughly enjoyed. NAMFI would like to thank all sponsors, especially following ones for their generous contributions.

Co-operation agreement between NAMFI and RKK.

At a meeting in Walvis Bay, Namibia, on 23 April 2009, NAMFI (Namibian Maritime and Fisheries Institute) and RKK formally entered into a cooperation agreement on adult education. The agreement was signed by the Director of NAMFI, Mr. Polli Andima and Managing Director of RKK, Mr. Ole Imsland.

NAMFI and RKK will collaborate on developing and running the following courses in Walvis Bay:

  • Offshore courses
  • Marine Engineering Courses
  • Navigation Courses
  • Health and Safety Courses
  • Human Resource Courses
  • Infrastructure development
  • Fisheries Related Training (harvesting and fish handeling,aquaculture, etc)
  • Rig Maintenance
  • Hiv and Aids

In 2009 the following courses will have priority:

  • Crane/slinging
  • Safety training
  • Hydraulics
  • Welding
  • Cable Tray
  • Pressure testing
